I assume they were unmarried at the time he made out the will. The following are all my notes about Henry. I have not found any more resources about Henry's involvement in the "Cary Rebellion". A List of Tithables Taken By James Coles, June the :30: in the yeare of our Lord 1702 Thomas Norcom :3: himself and his son John and Henrey Woren ========================================================== (Posted by Gerry Seymour, gseymour@intrex.net, on 28 Nov 2001, on the "Guyette, Sherman, Autry, et.al." WorldConnect site.) Henry received a land grant in March 1705/6 granted on the instruction of Nathanial Johnston, Governor, by Thomas Cary, Deputy Governor of North Carolina, for 361 acres beginning at Old Town Creek, Beaufort, North Carolina. In 1705, Henry and Elizabeth moved to Bath Precinct. In 1711, Henry was involved in the "Cary Rebellion". Colonel Thomas Cary, Henry Warren, and 12 other individuals were charged with having a "traitorous correspondence with the Tuscarora Indians", which led to the New Bern massacre of September 22, 1711. They were Quakers and were against a North Carolina government that was controlled by the Church of England. They were arrested, sent to England to stand trial, and released because the evidence was never produced. =============================================================== "Henry Warren" left a will in 1710 in Bath Precinct, Beaufort County, North Carolina: It was proved (probated) in April Court 1717 in Beaufort County, North Carolina. Raleigh: Baptist State Convention, 1930; reprint: Gallatin, Tenn.: Church History Research and Archives, 1990) 2 vols. In the first volume he lists the names of the 1742 "Baptist Dissenters" who were trying to establist a church on the North side of the Neuse River in Craven County. The petitioners were: John and Lazarus PEARCE; James JONES; Thomas, Benjamine, Joseph, and William FULSHER;Nathaniel DRAPER; Thomas LEWIS; Nicholas PUREFOY; William ROBINSON; John Jacob GRINDER; Samuel WILLIS; George GRAHAM; Robert SPRING [SPRINGER?]; Amos CUTRELL; John Jacob HOOVER; John WEST; Josiah HART; J.H.D.; John CURCH; Abraham WARREN; Lemuel HARVEY; and James PURSER. (G.W. Paschal, Hist. NC Bapt., 1:198 note). I have seen another petition (about 1747) signed by many of the above plus John GATLIN and others whose names I cannot recall just now." (page 41) "Paschal also mentions Swift Creek Baptist as being formed in 1742. The members noted in 1756 were: 'Joseph WILLIS; George FISHER; Abraham WARREN; James WILLIS; Samuel WILLIS; James PERDIEU; Jacob MILLER; Elizabeth WANE; Mary FISHER; Susanna WILLIS; Mary WARREN ; Mary MILLER. The preacher was Joseph WILLIS, his wife is Elizabeth SIMMONS by whom he has children: Mary, Joseph, Thomas, Caleb, Richard, Jesse, Ephraim.' (G.W. Paschal, Hist. List was signed by John GATLIN, Clerk. I assume Abraham Warren and Lazarus Pearce are the Baptists in this Militia.
